Jharkhand Chief Minister Shibu Soren has lost by-election to Tamar assembly seat to Jharkhand Party candidate Gopal Krishna Patar by a margin of 9000 votes.
The defeat may cost Soren Jharkhand Chief Minister’s seat. The results are not surprising in that many dissidents from the ruling UPA alliance covertly opposed Soren, who was sworn in as chief minister on August 27, 2008.
Soren sought to enter the assembly within the stipulated six months after assuming office on August 27.
Soren gained the numbers to form the government in the state with the support of Madhu Koda, who had resigned as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand.
The seat fell vacant after JD(U) legislature party leader Ramesh Singh Munda was gunned down on July 9 last year by suspected Maoists.
PTI adds: Jharkhand Chief Minister Shibu Soren says he will take a decision on his resignation only after meeting the UPA leadership at the Centre.
